Roanoke Wildlife Rescue is dedicated to helping orphaned and injured animals return to the wild.

Community education is important in helping our wildlife. We offer Outreach Programs to provide experience and information that helps foster awareness and understanding of Virginia wildlife.

Outreach programs give the audience an opportunity to get up close with different animals brought to you by trained animal handlers. RWR will bring non-releasable wildlife to your school or group event. This is an extraordinary opportunity to see animals from Virginia in a safe and managed environment and learn interesting facts about how they benefit the environment, the dangers they face, and what we can do to protect them. Outreach Programs can be designed to educate any age group, time frame or subject.

Roanoke Wildlife Rescue is committed to providing education for the community regarding local wildlife and environmental needs. We have been doing educational outreach programs for schools, clubs, scout groups, churches, and other local groups for over 30 years

Our education programs are customizable to meet your specific needs. We have a variety of program animals available to provide up close examples of local wildlife. Our education staff is knowledgeable and able to meet the needs of different groups, including covering the Virginia Standards of Learning in multiple grade levels. Our programs are a wonderful way to introduce a new unit of study or a great review of what has already been covered in the classroom. Simply let us know which SOL you are working on and we will customize our program to meet your needs.

Our programs are approximately 45 minutes in length. In order to ensure minimal stress on our animals we ask that you keep the group size to under 30 individuals for a single program. We can do multiple programs during one day, so if you have more than 30 people we can split the group into two or more sessions.
 

Our prices are as follows:

Local Programs - $200.00 (multiple same day programs will be discounted)

Out of town (25 miles or more from Roanoke) - Base Price + .75 per mile

 

The health and well being of our animals is our first priority. If at any time the group becomes too loud or uncooperative we will end the program. We ask that everyone remain seated during the program to help the animals feel less stressed. Most of our animals are for observation only. This is a rule put in place by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to protect both humans and wildlife.
