Our Mission

Our mission is to show respect and compassion for all wildlife through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of orphaned, injured, and sick wildlife. We are also committed to educating our community about wildlife and promoting conservation through outreach and information services.

We help people decide whether an animal they’ve found needs help at all. Our patients include raccoons, skunks, foxes, groundhogs, squirrels, opossums, rabbits, bats, turtles, and snakes, and many of them are orphaned babies.

They come to us after being hit by cars, caught by cats and dogs, tangled up, sickened, or displaced when their habitat is cleared. Some are healthy babies that well-meaning people picked up by mistake. We treat each one and release it once it’s ready.

We specialize in native Virginia mammals and are one of the few organizations in Southwest Virginia that regularly accepts raccoons and skunks. We care for foxes and groundhogs too, two other rabies vector species.

Before release, our young raccoons spend months in outdoor enclosures, where they learn to climb and find food on their own.
